Australia has announced that eight university students from Zimbabwe will be deported to Zimbabwe.
The reason is that the parents of these students are senior members of Mugabe Government.
While there are times that one would question the motives of Australia, this is a right decision. It is not fair that the students of the elite receive the education and the opportunities that are denied to ordinary citizens of Zimbabwe. Australia has said that the measure is part of tightening sanctions against Zimbabwe.
Whether the sanctions are effective or not remains to be seen. The reasons are two fold. Sanctions were never effective and Mugabe has done an excellent job of committing political suicide as evidenced by the refusal of his representative to be interviewed by Press TV.
