Jindal: Governor Elect of Louisiana

In the Elections for Governor of Louisiana, Representative Bobby Jindal [whose parents immigrated from India to the USA] became the first Indian American to be elected Governor. He also became the youngest [36 years of age] and the first from outside of the traditional establishment to be elected.

Mr. Jindal obtained 53% with almost 625,000 votes in 92% of the votes counted. This confirms his victory and an avoidnace of a runoff.

Mr. Jindal was born in 1971 in Baton Rouge Louisiana to recently arrived immigrants from India. His legal name is Piyush Jindal but started to use the name Bobby Jindal after watching an episode of the US Television Series “The Brady Bunch” which had a character named Bobby.

He attended Baton Rouge Magnet High School and graduated with honours. Afterwards, he went to Brown University in Providence Rhode Island with honours in Biology and Public Policy. He furthered his studies in Political Science at Oxford University. After Oxford, he joined Mc Kinsey Company which is a law firm.

His honours included being named India Abroad Person of the Year, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, Executive director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, President of the University of Louisiana System, Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation, and a member of the US House of Representative.

While he was defeated by Blanco in 2003, Blanco did not go for reelection for Governor of Louisiana since she was portrayed as having done nothing while the people of Louisiana suffered the ravaging effects of Hurricane Katrina, and Rita. Blanco need not worry in that aspect, the Republicans and Democrats are famous for not lifting a finger while the people of Louisiana suffered the effects of Katrina and Rita.

My best wishes to Bobby Jindal and his family.
