FROM THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY:
America’s Largest Third Party to Make Showing in Tomorrow’s Election
For the first time ever, the Libertarian Party has incumbents running unopposed
Quick Quotes:
Andrew Davis, Media Coordinator, Libertarian Party
-«When voters head to the polls tomorrow, they will see that because of the Libertarian Party, American democracy is not controlled by only two choices: Republican and Democrat.»
-«While this may not be the most candidates we’ve ever run in an election, it should certainly prove once again that Americans have a viable third choice for the leaders of their country. That choice is the Libertarian Party.»
Sean Haugh, Political Director, Libertarian Party
-«Libertarians believe government should do few things, but do those things very well, and local government is where most of those things happen.»
-«Local elections are very important to the Libertarian Party because that’s where we have the greatest ability to help people.»
Washington, D.C. – The Libertarian Party of the United States plans to make a strong showing in tomorrow’s elections and will increase its total number of Libertarians running in 2007 to 156. Additionally, the Libertarian Party is proud to announce that it has incumbent Libertarians running unopposed in tomorrow’s elections—for the first time in the history of the party. «When voters head to the polls tomorrow, they will see that because of the Libertarian Party, American democracy is not controlled by only two choices: Republican and Democrat,» says Libertarian Party Media Coordinator Andrew Davis.
The Libertarian Party has a number of incumbents running this year, including: Bill Owen in Davenport, IA; Mark Owen in Owasso, MI; Andy LeCureaux in Hazael Park, MI; Rob Oates in Caldwell, ID; and Nick Hogan and John McAlister both running for reelection in Gahanna, OH. It is expected that most, if not all, of these candidates will win their races.
For the first time in the party’s history, the Libertarian Party has incumbents running unopposed, most notably TJ Rohr in Lenoir, NC and Susan Bell in Hagerstown, IN. Rohr is running for City Council, and Bell is running for Town Court Judge.
«Local elections are very important to the Libertarian Party because that’s where we have the greatest ability to help people,» says Sean Haugh, political director of the Libertarian Party. «Local issues are the ones that affect people’s lives the most, from fixing potholes to delivering essential services to preventing waste on boondoggle projects. Libertarians believe government should do few things, but do those things very well, and local government is where most of those things happen. Getting Libertarians into local government is not only good for the people, it’s good for giving Libertarians experience in doing the positive work of government which will prepare them to run for and win higher office in the future.»
«While this may not be the most candidates we’ve ever run in an election, it should certainly prove once again that Americans have a viable, third choice for the leaders of their country,» says Davis. «That choice is the Libertarian Party.»
The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties.
