Medicare Part D is the latest in a series of regulations governing Medicare and Medicaid. Like Medicare and Medicaid, it is also going to be a confusing regulation that will be blown out of proportion. Medicare Part A has to do with Hospital Care. Medicare Part B has to do with Outpatient Care, Physician Care, and Medical Equipment of a durable nature. Medicare Part D is a subsidy of Prescription Medications for the Geriatric Population. Medicare Part D was part of a series of measures theoretically designed to «modernize» Medicare.
What has happened is that beneficiaries are forced to enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan thereby removing their choice of a Drug Plan. Medicare D [like most Government Health Plans] have a series of deductibles that the geriatric patient cannot meet taking into account that the rules for such deductibles are complex and incomprehensible for them.
The final blow is the deductible called the Dough nut Hole in which the beneficiary must pay all of the costs of their medication when it is reached. The majority of the Geriatric Population cannot meet these deductibles, let alone afford the costs of their medications.
The only positive in Medicare Part D is that the first US Citizen to have enrolled in Medicare Part D has been former Miami Dolphins Coach Don Shula.
Regardless, Medicare is a bureaucratic monster that cannot continue in its present state. The best thing for Medicare and Medicaid is privatization.
