According to Merinews [an Electronic Magazine in India] and the BBC, The Communist Government of West Bengal has been involved in a massacre of people in the southwest Calcutta Suburb of Nandigram.
People have protested the killings including intellectuals. The response of the Communist Party of India [M] Government of West Bengal was to attempt to kill the film director Aparna Sen or at least use scare tactics to prevent her from entering film festivals in Calcutta. Her “crime” was organizing the protests against the killings in Nandigram.
It must be remembered that India currently has a Congress Party/Communist Party of India Coalition Government. The Central Government in India has taken an interest in the case because of the coalition government and because India has said it would not tolerate “states within states”.
While the junior partners of the West Bengal Government lead by the Communist Party of India [M] states that the Communist Party of India [M] should be held responsible, the junior partners should be held responsible for their inaction up to the present time.
