During times long ago, Christmas was a «Holy Day». At the present day, people go shopping for gifts; prepare for parties; get together to celebrate Christmas. Yet we forget that Christmas is the time when our Saviour Jesus Christ was born. We forget to mention Jesus Christ. One person sang «Happy Birthday to Jesus Christ» as a way of keeping Christ in Christmas [although this is the equivalent of blasphemy].

The question: «Can Christians Ever Manage To Reclaim Christmas As A Holy Day?» is a question of doubt. The answer is that those who profess to be Christians should do whatever they can to reclaim Christmas as a Holy Day and to recognize that Christmas is about Jesus Christ.

If other religions and other beliefs can reclaim their beliefs and traditions, Christians should reclaim for themselves what is the true essence of Christmas. Over 2000 years ago happened when a Revolution in the Middle East erupted. This revolution was a Baby born in a Manger to a Mother [who was a Virgin] and a Father because there was no room in the inn.

It should be remembered that the reactionaries of 2000 years ago called Herod, his followers [called the Herodians], the Jewish Ruling Class [Pharisees and Sadducee’s], and the Romans attempted to kill Jesus and successfully in order to save us. Yet the reincarnation of Herod in the form of the Republicans, Democrats, Communists, Nazis, Racists and Socialists try to minimize the True Revolution by Commercialism.

Advent is the way of preparing people for Christmas and is also lost in the commercialization that has become Christmas. There was once a time [many areas still celebrate it] that Christmas was celebrated between the 25th of December to the 7th of January. What is the significance of the Christmas Carol: «The Twelve Days of Christmas»? These were the days that Christmas was celebrated.

Before Christmas, there was Advent which was a time of reflection. One example of Advent Tradition was the Christmas Wreath used in Celtic Countries such as Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Brittany, Isle of Man, and Galicia. The Christmas Wreath was a Wreath with four Candle Holders. In the beginning of the Advent Week, One Candle was lighted for the wreath and the ceremony continued for each week.

The purpose of the Wreath was to prepare people for Christmas which is actually a Revolutionary Statement in which a Baby named Jesus Christ was born to save us all from the powers of Satan.

Another tradition that is being used in the BBC was the Advent Calender. The Advent Calender has the same purpose but with one door being opened within the beginning of the week.

At the present time, Christmas is being celebrated even in July and removing all content of the birth of Jesus Christ. It must be remembered that gifts and carols aside, Christmas is the time of the birth of Jesus Christ and we must remember that first and foremost. Christmas without Jesus Christ is just another commercial celebration. We the people should also nurture the Christmas Spirit All Year Long by fostering a culture of love, respect, and tolerance towards one another so that the words «Peace On Earth and Goodwill Toward People» can become a reality instead of a cliche.
