ESPN Wants to Broadcast Premier League Games
ESPN [A Sports Broadcasting Station in America] has expressed its interest in broadcasting Premier League Games.
ESPN reaches 10 million viewers in Europe and has been buying interests in other sports programmes such as Cricket [with its purchase of Cricinfo], and Rugby [with its purchase of Scrum.com]. ESPN also broadcasts the MLS, Mexican League, as well as Basketball, American Football, Baseball, and Tennis.
While it will not be denied that many of these purchases are based on love of money, there is a belief that Football is also taking a hold in America. Football will be gradually taking a hold of the market in America and share the spotlight with other sports. The reason is that there is a growing demand for sports programmes and a revulsion against programmes that promote an artificial drama.
I applaud ESPN in its decision to purchase rights to the Premier League Games.
