Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins received the Walter Peyton Humanitarian Award. Afterwards, there was the coin toss in which the New York Giants won the toss with the selection of tails. Actually, Eli Manning of the New York Giants chose tails and tails it was. While theoretically, the team that starts could gain the advantage, the tables could be turned against the starting team in the second half of the game. Domenick Hixon Number 87 kicked off the first ball into the end zone with the ball in the 23 yard line.
Manning completed the first pass and number 17 Plaxico Burress received it. Manning continued a second pass with the Giants arriving at the 40 yard line. It appears that Manning and the New York Giants are advancing like a tank while Peyton Manning is watching from the sidelines. The New York Giants are playing to win and it appears that it is coming to that with another first down being thrown. I am not surprised since Eli Manning and his brother Peyton come from a long line of American Football Family. There was almost a touchdown but it was an incomplete pass followed by an incomplete pass.
The Giants under Number Nine Lawrence Tynes kicked the first field goal from 32 yards of the Super Bowl XLII giving the Giants a three to zero lead. This occurred with 5 Minutes and One Second remaining in the 1st Quarter. On the New England Patriots Side, Running Back Lawrence Maroney [Number 39] is now going on the offensive in an attempt to score a touchdown for New England. Brady threw the ball to Wide Receiver Number 83 Wes Welker who was able to gain ground. [Wes Welker was bypassed by the Miami Dolphins in contract negotiations and this was one of the greatest mistakes of the Miami Dolphins.] While the people of FOX Sports were commenting about Brady’s Ankle, he appears to be in great health. In fact, Brady appears to be enjoying himself as the first quarter draws to a close.
Third Down and Ten, Brady throws to the intended receiver number 84 Benjamin Watson only to receive interference from New York Giants Antonio Pierce [Number 58]. Regardless, the First Quarter ends with the New York Giants leading the New England Patriots 3 to 0.
The Second Quarter starts with a touchdown by the New England Patriots. The touchdown was by Lawrence Maroney and the score was New England Patriots 6-3 New York Giants. Stephen Gostkowski scores an extra point in the field goal giving the Patriots 7-3 over the Giants with 14 Minutes and 57 seconds remaining.
New York Giants received an 5 yard penalty for outside interference [playing before being authorized yet I saw one of the New England Patriots holding the helmet of one of the New York Giants and this was not called by the referees. If New York had wanted a review, they would have won the call on the helmet holding. Ellis Hobbs [Number 27 of the Patriots] intercepted the ball on the first down. Eli Manning threw the ball at one of the New York Giants Wide Receivers Steve Smith [12] only to have the ball intercepted by Ellis Hobbs of the New England Patriots. It is New England that is dominating the second quarter.
The New York Giants Ahmad Bradshaw [#44] received the ball only to fumble. It appears that the Giants are on the defensive. FOX Sports cut the game to a commercial in which lizards were dancing to the Michael Jackson Song: “Thriller”. I had to laugh because no TV Station interrupts history for a commercial. Returning to the Second Quarter after the “Thriller” Commercial, it appears that the New England Patriots continue to dominate the Second Quarter in spite of heavy resistance from the New York Giants.
The Second Quarter ends with the New England Patriots 7-3 over the New York Giants.
The FOX Sports Team of Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, and Howie Long were debating about what transpired in the first half of the Super Bowl while Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were singing in the Halftime Concert. Tom Petty was singing songs from his repertoire of old and new hits.
The Third Quarter begins with the New York Giants battling the New England Patriots for supremacy. While the Patriots are winning, it appears that the Giants are giving them a headache. New England is currently challenging a play by Giants Linebacker Chase Blackburn. The referees ruled that “the call was reversed and the Patriots received a first down based on a penalty”. This occurred with eleven minutes remaining in the third quarter.
It appears that the New England Patriots have recharged and they are dominating the third quarter taking advantage of the mistakes made by the New York Giants. After a failed pass by Brady, the Giants took over the third quarter. With six minutes remaining, New England has to score a touchdown or at least hold on to its lead by allowing the clock to run. The New York Giants have to score another touchdown in order to regain the lead. The New York Giants appear to like Tom Petty’s Music since they are recharged as well.
Regardless with four minutes remaining, there is an incomplete pass which deprives New York of the chance to regain points. Again the referees rule against the New England Patriots. Brady throws another incomplete pass. New England is unable to slow down the New York Giants. The Third Quarter ends with New England Patriots 7-3 New York Giants.
