The controversy of the Florida and Michigan Delegates started when both states
held their primaries ahead of schedule and against the decision of the Democratic
National Committee. The Florida and Michigan Democratic Party thought that their
vote would not count in the case of other states primaries. The Florida and
Michigan Democratic Party received a stern warning from the Democratic National
Committee of not having their delegates recognized if they held their vote. The
Democratic National Committee also warned that their primaries would be non
binding. When does the Democratic National Committee suddenly decide that a
vote is valid or not? It is sheer hypocrisy that the Democratic Party has promoted
the concept of freedom and human rights around the world but decide that the
Florida and Michigan Votes are worth nothing. It appears that the Democratic Party
and The Democratic National Committee have lost touch with the common people.
The Democratic Party of Michigan and Florida is willing to hold another Primary
before June 2008 but the fact that people braved rain, snow, winds, taking the day
off from work, or even forming lines after work in order to exercise their right to vote
the first time around should mean that the earlier Primary Results should stand as
they are and be accepted as valid. The Democratic Party and the Democratic
National Committee should accept the results as they are and accept the delegates
from Florida and Michigan or drop the name Democratic as their party name. The
Democratic Party and The Democratic National Committee should take into
account their members who voted in these Primaries because holding another
primary may eventually question the legitimacy of the Primaries, Caucuses, and the
Electoral College.
The fact that the Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee have
decided to hold hostage their followers in Michigan and Florida as to whether their
vote counts or not reveals that they are the party of democracy and freedom when
its suits their interests. I am talking about the same Democratic Party and
Democratic National Committee who blames Ralph Nader and the Green Party for
their defeat in 2004 when in fact that the votes did not even affect the outcome of
the 2004 Election. I am also talking about the same Democratic Party who
collaborated with the Republican Party in Ohio in 2004 to nullify the 57,000
signatures in a petition by the Libertarian Party to place Michael Badnarik on the
Ballot for President of the United States. I am also talking about the same
Democratic and Republican Party who have held the nation hostage with their talk,
no action, and lots of loss of freedom. I challenge the Democratic Party and the
Democratic National Committee to grow up, practice the art of freedom, respect the
vote of Florida and Michigan, and allow the delegates of Florida and Michigan to
take their places amongst their fellow delegates or drop the name «Democratic»
from their party name.
