The Algarve Cup has come to an end until next year and the United States Women’s Soccer Team has emerged victorious in first place after defeating all of the countries in its groups and Denmark. This victory occurred in the Municipal Stadium at the city of Vila Real de San Antonio, Portugal. The protagonist of this victory for the United States was Natasha Kai who was instrumental in the two goals. 

In the first half of the Championship Tournament, Natasha Kai was able to kick the ball between the legs of Danish Goalkeeper Heidi Johansen into the net following a corner kick from Heather O’Reilly and a cross from Carli Lloyd in the fourteenth minute of the first half. The Danish Women’s Football [Soccer] Team was angry and decided to give the United States a hard time during the game with their 4-3-3 formation. It appeared that the first half was a struggle between the United States of America and Denmark with Catherine Sorensen scoring an equalizer in the thirtieth minute of the game. The United States Women’s Soccer [Football] team left nothing to chance with Denmark coming strong. The first half ended with an equalizer but there was to be a surprise in the horizon. 

The Second Half of the game started as usual with one surprise as Abby Wambach scoring a second goal with the help of Natasha Kai in the forty ninth minute of the game. After that, Denmark started attempting equalizers with substitutions while the United States attempted to maintain the momentum and the lead with substitutions. Stephanie Cox received a booking in the sixtieth minute for anti professional conduct but that did not stop the United States from showing Europe especially Denmark what they are made of football [soccer] wise. Regardless, Denmark refused to give up easily and applied pressure on the United States Women’s Soccer Team while the United States appeared to enjoy the pressure and the game. This appears to have been another chapter in the history of the United States Women’s Soccer Team and they deserved their sixth victory at the Algarve Cup.
