The New England Revolution wanted to start a Revolution in Chicago and the results were not in favour of New England. It all started at Toyota Park at Bridgeview, Illinois in the presence of 15,553 spectators and was broadcast by ESPN.
The Chicago Fire started by dominating the first half in the game and field while New England could only stand back and do nothing. Blanco, Barrett, and Frankowski were able to score goal after goal in a first half that left Chicago asking for more excitement in a game that broke records such as the most goals in a half time, the first time in almost a span of three years that the Chicago Fire manage to score four goals within a game, and the first time the Chicago Fire wins a home game including defeating the New England Revolution by a wide margin in any MLS [Major League Soccer] Regular Meeting.
After an eventful first half, the second half was just simply more of the same with attempts to maintain the same results. The bookings for unprofessional conduct as well as the substitutions did not alter the outcome of the game.
The Chicago Fire was formidable in their performance and dominance of the first half and was able to douse the cold rain with the warmth, tenacity, and discipline of their game and offence plans. The Chicago Fire apparently has done their homework after being defeated by the Colorado Rapids in their last pre season game and after drawing against Real Salt Lake. The Chicago Fire must continue what it was doing if it wants to win the MLS Cup Trophy.
The New England Revolution did not attempt any form of resistance except for an attempt at dominance of the field and game within the first few minutes of the game. In fact, the New England Revolution missed two opportunities to score. New England did not even engage the Chicago Fire and appeared more interested in just playing to get the game over with. It is unbelievable that this is the New England Revolution that defeated the Houston Dynamos on the 29th of March of 2008 at Gillette Stadium. It is also unbelievable that this is the same New England Revolution that is in First Place in the Eastern Conference of the MLS [Major League Soccer].
