MDC to Mbeki: No More Quiet Diplomacy

The Leaders of the Movement for Democratic Change [MDC] told South African President Thabo Mbeki that the era of «Quiet Diplomacy» is over and that he should put pressure on Mugabe to release the results of the Presidential Elections without recounts. The SADC [Southern Africa Development Community] has confirmed Mbeki as his role of mediator and declared that all parties must accept the results of the Presidential Elections. It is of my personal opinion that this is another attempt for Mugabe to buy himself more time in front of an increasingly impotent SADC. Let’s get real. Mugabe does not want to leave even though he knows he lost an election. If an election result is not released, it means that Mugabe lost and MDC won. Any attempts to recount votes even in 23 constituencies would amount to tainting the vote. MDC with its legal challenge and strike as well as the International Community is right in asking for the immediate release of the results of the Presidential Elections. Quiet Diplomacy has not worked now nor in the past since ignoring the Zimbabwe problem did not make Zimbabwe go away.
