INTRODUCTION
I am a football [soccer] fan and one of the teams I support is the US Team and MLS [Major League Soccer]. On the 24th of April 2008, I had the honour of watching the New England Revolution play against FC Dallas on ESPN. The game took place at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas in front of 10,543 spectators.
FIRST HALF
The First Half was known for both teams not being able to dominate the field. It was uneventful except that New England had missed three opportunities to score a goal while FC Dallas Goalkeeper Wells Thomas succesfully deflected the ball. Juan Toja of FC Dallas attempted to score but New England Goalkeeper Matt Reis was able to block the ball by jumping in the air and deflect the ball. It was these half hearted attempts that left the game scoreless.
SECOND HALF
The Second Half was more exciting than the first half with both teams attempting substitutions with the intent of scoring a goal. There were yellow cards for the New England Revolution with Thompson receiving one for professional foul, and Smith with Igwe receiving one for reckless foul. FC Dallas’s Alvarez received one for excessive diving. Regardless the game started to heat up with Khano Smith scoring the first goal at 72:00 minutes for the New England Revolution. An attempt by Ricchetti of the FC Dallas to score an equalizer by kicking the ball by 30 feet as well failed. Mc Carty attempted two times to score for FC Dallas only to fail miserably as well.
REFLECTION
New England may have won this game but the play was mediocre. This was not the New England Revolution that won games in the last season. New England could have done better but their play was like kicking in the air. The same applies to the FC Dallas. There is one positive aspect at least they are not the winless team that has become the Houston Dynamos. New England Revolution and FC Dallas are in dire of need of improvement in the methods of playing football [soccer].
FC Dallas 0-1 New England Revolution
New England Revolution: 5/10
FC Dallas: 5/10
