A Positive Rebuttal to Negative Thinking about the Beijing Olympics 2008

I have decided to write a rebuttal to those who still want to defile the Beijing Olympics of 2008 using the clichés of yesterday. I have also decided to start my article by asking questions and answering them. Do those who write about China know the official name of China? The Official Name of China is the People’s Republic of China. Have any of the authors who write about China ever visited China? The answer to that question is a resounding no. Have those who write about China been objective about the Beijing Olympics in 2008 without injecting politics into what should be a great sporting event? The answer again is no. Have the writers given complete coverage to the Olympic Torch? I have to reply with another no.

In Great Britain, France, and other parts of the Western World [including the United States of America], the torch of Olympia was subjected to all forms of acts of repudiation in an area known for its culture of self absorption. [I know since I was born and raised in Western Society in the United States of America]. No one seems to remember that the torch was well received in places such as Argentina and Tanzania with the Western Press and the Self Gratifying Society saying: «How dare Argentina and Tanzania receive the Olympic Torch with applause?» It does not occur to those who criticize the Torch and the Beijing Olympics that there are people who could care less about politics and want nothing more than to «have fun» and enjoy the Beijing Olympics.

I have visited the People’s Republic of China and I have seen a society that has taken measures against terrorism while Western Society has been willing to tolerate terrorists within their borders. For those who say such measures are unfair, every society and country that wants to survive must be willing to take measures to ensure the domestic tranquility and the safety of those who visit the country. The people who complain of forced evictions in China have forgotten the forced evictions in America in which houses are replaced by condominiums. The people who talk about Muslim Separatists and Separatists of every tendency forget that China has police and armed forces patrolling the streets helping the citizens and eradicating terrorists by arresting them and placing them in prison.

The fact that there is a heavy police presence means that the citizens of China and the tourists are safe and secure. There was no such security in Munich during the 1972 Olympics. The Organizers of the Beijing Olympics have done an excellent job in making sure that there are no terrorist incidents. There have been drills as well as pamphlets published on what to do in case of any threats. There have been pamphlets for tourists and citizens which deal with common sense issues such as not accepting packages from strangers to what happen if an unattended luggage is seen.

The airports have also been secured with tourists and citizens going through the same motions that citizens and tourists have to go through in America and the Western World. Examples are the checkpoints, registering the entire luggage with customs, declaring all items, and even removal of shoes. These were the same measures that have been a success story when it comes to combating terrorism and are being used in the People’s Republic of China.

The borders between China and its neighboring countries have also been supervised in a way that would make the supervision of the borders of the United States of America pale in comparison. In other words, illegal entry into China is prohibited and the punishment is severe. The fact that there will be no air traffic into Beijing or China during the opening of the Olympic Games will also decrease the chances of a terrorist threat.

I felt safer in the People’s Republic of China in 2008 than in Cleveland, Ohio in 1977. [I was at a Baseball Game between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians. The police at that time did not register packages and one could appreciate the presence of bats, sticks, and guns in the possession of people].

The only thing that should be addressed is that people should «Come Together» [like the song from the Beatles] and celebrate the Beijing Olympics of 2008. For those who want to waste their breath and ink on mindless talk, you are losing out on what will be the Greatest Olympics
