There are people in the West who talk about business and politics in the same way that sports and politics are discussed. In the same way sports and politics must be separated, there should be a separation of business and politics. Even more so when talking about the rising star of Asia and the world called The People’s Republic of China. Business and Politics are separated in The People’s Republic of China so any of the so called experts from the West contemplating imposing a foreign lifestyle would be advised not to invest.
In The People’s Republic of China, there are interests such as Haier [Electronics and Air Conditioning from China] which invests in countries such as the United States of America [in order to create job opportunities], Cuba, Pakistan, Iran, as well as other countries with almost the same intention although I would have to do further studies about the investments of the People’s Republic of China in Cuba.
The investments of the Philips, Sony, General Motors, Honda, and many other conglomerates have helped the Chinese Economy and the people reach their full potential and have helped China enter the World Market. One of the companies that have been able to balance globalization, business, and good governance is Sinopec.
Sinopec [which is the Chinese Petroleum Company] have invested in Gabon as well as other African Countries. There have been similar investments in Central Asia especially Kazakhstan which has helped increase trade between the two countries. None of them have been related to politics since The People’s Republic of China has embarked on a wise course of separating politics from business interests. I could not say this about Harvard University who sold off their interests in Sinopec secondary to an ideological and political rigidity in Harvard which stipulates that politics and business must mix. Sinopec is governed under the rules of the Code of Corporate Governance for Listed Companies as issued by the China Securities and Regulatory Commission of the State Economic and Trade Commission of the People’s Republic of China.
Petrochina under the motto of Energize, Harmonize, and Realize have managed to establish contacts with other companies which are environmentally friendly with countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Brazil, and Venezuela. Petrochina is working on the Central Asia Gas Pipeline with Uzbekneftegaz [Uzbekistan] as well as boosting pre existing oilfields in the Fergana Region in Uzbekistan. With the Central Asia Gas Pipeline, there are plans to pump petroleum and natural gas both ways from China to Turkmenistan. Petrochina is also working on the same project in cooperation with Turkmengaz [in Turkmenistan]. All of this boosting business without the need to get politics involved. I would like to wish Petrochina and Sinopec the best in their endeavors as well as for the success of the Beijing Olympics 2008 of which they are sponsors.
