Softball, Beijing Olympics, and Vicky Galindo

SOFTBALL, BEIJING OLYMPICS, AND VICKY GALINDO

While preparations are underway for the Beijing Olympics of 2008, there are people in the US Olympic Team who are not receiving the attention they deserve. One of these people is Vicky Galindo.

Vicky Galindo was born Victoria Galindo on the 22nd of December 1983 and has been an ever increasing force in Softball. Vicky Galindo started her career in softball at the tender age of four when her father [a coach of a baseball team] encouraged her to put on an extra shirt that was available and play. Vicky Galindo started her career in Softball at James Logan High School [located in Union City, California] where she was voted the Best All Around Female Athlete in her Senior Year. In College, Vicky Galindo rose quickly in Softball by Leading West Valley Junior College to the state championship title, earning All-American honors, gaining the first team all-league with a .510 batting average in the year 2002.
In the year 2003, Vicky Galindo was named to the All-CWS tournament team with an All-region recognition after hitting .462 (6-13). Vicky Galindo was able to obtain All-Pacific Region second team honors with 73 hits were the fifth highest total among Pac-10 players and posting 19 regular season multi-hit games. In the Year 2004, Vicky Galindo became a member of USA Schutt Elite Team at Canada Cup and Champions Cup. Vicky Galindo also had a hit .415 (22-53) with 12 runs and a team-high five doubles and 12 RBI and receiving the First team All-American and All Pacific Region. In the year 2005, Vicky Galindo won the First Team All American as well as the Pac 10 Conference Honors.
After College, Vicky Galindo went to play for the United States National Team in Softball. In the year 2005, she was International Sports Invitational Champion, Gold medalist at Pan Am qualifier, Silver medalist at the Softball World Cup, and Silver medalist at the Japan Cup. In 2006 and 2007, Vicky Galindo became a Gold Medalist at the World Cup of Softball as well as a Gold Medalist at the Pan American Games.
Vicky Galindo is a graduate from the University of California in Berkeley with a degree in Social Welfare and plans to return to obtain her Master’s Degree. She also hopes to continue playing Softball for a long time. My best wishes to Vicky Galindo in her quest for a Gold Medal at the Beijing Olympics 2008. She deserves the best and deserves a Gold Medal.
