Beijing Olympics 2008: Nancy Rios

After the inauguration of the Beijing Olympics 2008, Qingdao has become the centre for sailing enthusiasts. It has been a privilege to visit Qingdao and to visit the Qingdao Olympic Centre. I am not one of the few people in Miami Florida who had the honour of gracing the Qingdao Olympic Centre. Another person who lives in Coconut Grove, Florida [Coconut Grove is a neighborhood in Miami Florida] and will be in Qingdao is Nancy Rios.
Nancy Rios is to Windsurfing and Sailing what Patty Cardenas is to Water Polo, Vicky Galindo is to Water Polo, and Amy Rodriguez is to United States Female Soccer. Nancy Rios in such a short time has achieved a lot and is now going to represent the United States of America in Qingdao, The People’s Republic of China. But who is Nancy Rios?
Nancy Rios was born in California in 1988 and has been sailing since the age of fourteen. Nancy Rios spent the majority of her childhood and adolescence between Mexico and the United States until her family settled in Florida. Nancy Rios graduated from Naples Senior High School in 2005 and went to Brevard Community College for two years.

Nancy Rios has been with the United States Sailing Team since 2006 and has accomplished the following. In the year 2006, Nancy Rios was in first place in the US Sailing Pre-Trials which took place in Long Beach, California and was in eleventh place in the US Sailing Rolex Miami, Florida OCR Tournament. Nancy Rios also won the US Sailing Pre-Trials by winning 6 out of 8 races. In the year 2007, Nancy Rios was in first place in the

U.S. Olympic Team Trials which took place Sailing/Long Beach, California, fifth place in thePan American Games which took place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and 21st place in the US Sailing Rolex Miami OCR in Miami, Florida [finishing as a top finisher for the United States of America].

 In the year 2008, Nancy Rios was ranked as a top US Finisher in the Neil Pryde RS:X Championships in New Zealand and is now ready for the Beijing Olympics. She is currently ranked as number one on the US Sailing Team in RS:X Women. I would like to wish her and the US Sailing Team the best in their quest for an Olympic Medal.
