Brett Favre is Making A Mistake

While the Beijing Olympics in 2008 are continuing and the NFL [National Football League] is beginning its season, we have witnessed the signing of Brett Favre with the New York Jets. The same Brett Favre who promised that he would retire with dignity after his last season with the Green Bay Packers.

In my opinion, retirement means sitting back, relaxing, and being a mentor to future generations of American Football Players. Brett Favre had my respect when he announced his retirement in the beginning of 2008 [or the end of the 2007-2008 NFL American Football Season. I imagined a Brett Favre with the generous amount of retirement money mentoring future American Footballers in Universities, Schools, and even in the Green Bay Packer Building. I also imagined Brett Favre enjoying time with his family. After all, he left his mark in the history of the Green Bay Packers.

Brett Favre threw everything away when he signed with the New York Jets. Brett Favre allowed his pride and desire for more fame, money, and glory to take over his brain as he committed professional suicide with his alliance with the New York Jets. While money talks, it cannot guarantee that Brett Favre will have a great era and time with the New York Jets compared with the Green Bay Packers. I am already imagining Vince Lombardi turning over in his grave at such a public display of treason for money.

Brett Favre has also thrown away his pride, dignity, and self respect. Brett Favre is also risking his health. I do not want to imagine what would happen if during a game, Brett Favre [I hope I am wrong] were to be injured. The body of a veteran NFL Player cannot withstand the pressure that an NFL American Football Athlete starting his career would have. I also do not want to imagine when the New York Jets play against the Green Bay Packers and Favre is in the game dressed as a New York Jet. The Green Bay Packers have a diehard fan base that does not forget or forgive betrayals. Many in the Green Bay Packers fan base as well as the club itself are thinking that he betrayed the club for the love of money, When an American Football Player reaches a certain age, he should learn how to retire gracefully. Brett Favre could have been a Sports Reporter for the Affiliates in the United States of America such as CBS, NBC, ABC, or FOX at the opening of the NFL Coverage. Unfortunately, Brett Favre has committed professional suicide.

  1. I met Brett one snowy night at a movie theater in Green Bay in 1995. Huge blizzard, only four people in the place. Thought I’d leave the guy in peace, but HE came up to ME to shoot the breeze. I just said » Thank-you for all you’ve done for the Packers and us Packer fans.», and shook his hand. Amazing athlete, class guy, ultimate competitor. I’m a huge life long Packer fan, but when are we all going to realize Brett did a million times more for the GBP than the GBP ever did for him. When are the GBP and all GBP fans going to realize how much of a privilege and blessing it was that Brett did what he did in Green Bay. He could just as well have done it elsewhere. I’ve spoken with guys who played for Lombardi and they all had the same self-assessment….average guys who were inspired to become extraordinary players and men. Brett, those of us who have really followed your career know that you became an extraordinary player and man mostly because of you, your Dad, and your family. You don’t owe anything to anybody but those you love and those who love you. Brett, I hope you and your family decide to put on the purple and gold and do what you do best. GO GIT ‘R DONE!
