I dedicate this article to Michael Bistrow who was reporting for the BBC [British Broadcasting Corporation] from Beijing, China, to the negative people in the West who wanted to make political statements using the Olympics. I am also dedicating this article to those who attempted to destroy the Olympic Spirit in London and Paris by attempting to destroy the torch or snatch it from the hands of the BBC Reporter named Konnie Huq. Imagine if people would have boycotted the Beijing Olympics, we would not have Michael Phelps and his record breaking victories of Gold Medals which has gone farther than Mark Spitz.
Michael Phelps is proof of why sports and politics must be separated and why people should come together in an Olympic Spirit. For me, it is a pleasure to see Michael Phelps on CCTV and hear it on CRI English when he had a Gold Medal Victory in the 400 metre individual relay and the 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay. It was even great when his mother was present to support Michael Phelps. I am also content with the fact that his mother was present and supported him all the way. Michael Phelps returned the favour by giving his mother the flowers that he received along with the Olympic Gold Medals.
Michael Phelps is now the new Mark Spitz for the Twenty First Century and it is hoped that he will not be affected by the commercialism that is rampant in our society. I have the feeling that Michael Phelps will not suffer from the superiority insecurity complex that plagued Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding during the 1994 Winter Olympics. Michael Phelps is a decent athlete whose love for family is matched by love for country. At a time when it is easy to just give up and go with the flow, Michael Phelps has defied all odds and has been able to win a string of victories in the Beijing Olympics.
While the Western Press [including NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, and others] express their doubts about the Butterfly and Michael Phelps receiving the Gold for the Butterfly, I would like to express the following: congratulations to Michael Phelps and the US Olympic Swimming Team for their Gold Medal. I would also like to congratulate the Western Press for going negative and my advice to them is to get a life. CRI [China Radio International] English and CCTV [China Central Television] deserves a big applause for dedicating time in its Olympic Programming to a person who epitomizes the Olympics: Michael Phelps.
