Zindine Zidane: A Personal Reflection

According to news from the website Goal.com, Zindine Zidane will be a member of the distinguished panel of judges who will choose the best player of La Liga [in Spain] and receive the honour of the Di Stefano Trophy. Zindine Zidane is the Football Player who played for France, Real Madrid, and Juventus. Zindine Zidane is also famous for his head butt against the defender for the Italian National Team Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup in Germany. While Zindine Zidane will be remembered as one of the best in football history, his famous head butt put a big dent in his career even though he was pardoned by then French President Jacque Chirac, Algerian President Abdel Aziz Bouteflika, and French Colombian Politician Ingrid Betancourt [after Betancourt was rescued from FARC Captivity].

Many people in Miami, Florida still remember the 2006 World Cup in Germanywith the famous head butt. In fact, one television show had a skit in which the World Cup was mixed with the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant with one actor dressed as Zindine Zidane wearing a dress and sash that said France and another actor dressed as Marco Materazzi under the same arrangement. In the skit, another actor playing the host of the World Cup Miss Universe Satire screamed out «Miss France» in which the Zidane Imitator came forward followed by another scream «Miss Italy» in which the Zidane Imitator head butted the Materazzi imitator. In fact, many people in Miami Florida and the United States of Americaassociated the World Cup, Zidane, and Materazzi with the head butt. I also remember seeing a video called «Head Butt» by its French Title «Coup de Boule» which left me laughing even though I am a Football Fan.

Regardless of what transpired and who was at fault, Zindine Zidane has made amends by announcing his retirement and dedicating time to service to the world. Before being selected to judge who will be the recipient of the Di Stefano Trophy, he participated in the Keuydaroon Children’s AIDS charity in Northern Thailandand raised Seven Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars for the event which is supposed to help children with AIDS. Zindine Zidane has also participated in a yearly event called The Match against Poverty whose purpose is to help the United Nations Development Programme in its efforts to reduce poverty. I have high hopes that Zindine Zidane will be able to make a decision on who deserves the Di Stephano Trophy with other members of the panel based on merit.
