The_US_Soccer_Team_Is_the_Team_for_the_21st_CenturyAfter the US Soccer Team defeated Cuba and earned itself a place in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament, the US Soccer Team is preparing itself for the upcoming game against Trinidad and Tobago. While it is great that the US Soccer Team has defeated its opponents in its group [and win its next game against Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala], the US Soccer Team should not rest on its laurels.
The US Soccer Team is in its adolescent phase and still has to face the big giants of Africa, Europe, and Asia in the 2010 World Cup. Regardless, there was a spirit of loyalty to the US Soccer Team in the game between the United States and Cuba [which took place at the RFK Stadium in Washington, DC]. Who could not forget the more than 20,000 people who went to see this all too important game? Who could not forget the people with the American Flag, the US Soccer Team Shirts, and the US Soccer Scarf? Who cannot forget the cheers of the people in the stadium as the US Soccer Team dominated the game from the beginning to the end? Who cannot forget how RFK Stadium in Washington DC reverberated to the screams and celebrations of each goal?
What has happened is that there are people who believe that the US Soccer Team has a future. The people can identify with a soccer team that is of their own country. A few decades ago, the US Citizen who loved soccer had to find teams in England, Spain, Russia, and Germany. We are witnessing how the US Soccer Culture has been taking hold in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. The US Soccer Team has their shares of heroes just like England has Beckham and France has Zidane. The US Soccer Team has Landon Donovan, DeMarcus Beasley, and Altidore. The US Soccer Team has also been active in humanitarian gestures designed to help people from a lower income bracket and training future soccer players.
I consider this a positive experience as a US Citizen and a Soccer Fan. I am confident that with a few more generations, persistent hard work, with discipline and consistency, the US Soccer Team can and will progress to become the team to be reckoned with in the 21st Century. I would like to wish the US Soccer Team the best of luck in its upcoming games against Trinidad and Tobago as well as against Guatemala.
