In the present tense, there have been news segments dedicated to celebrities behaving badly and only caring about themselves. It is a crime that most of the celebrities that have shown signs of goodwill and the causes that they are passionate about is not always mentioned. If they are mentioned, such news is always in the back pages of a newspaper or magazine.
One of the notable examples of celebrities doing charitable work has been Maria Lourdes. Maria Lourdes is a Cuban American Singer, Actress, and Model who has been instrumental in writing and recording her own music. Recently, Maria Lourdes did a concert to help a victim of a medical condition. The name of the person in whom the concert was dedicated to was Zunnette Rodriguez and the purpose was to help her parents pay for the treatment which was necessary. Her concert raised money and Ms. Rodriguez was able to begin the stages toward an eventual recovery.
Maria Lourdes also participated in a Dance A Thon in the Television Programme «Pellizcame Que Estoy So~nando» [Pinch Me, I Must Be Dreaming]. The purpose of her participation was to help people in an orphanage in Central America. Her first participation in which she danced with her partner to the background music recorded by the Beatles ‘I Saw Her Standing There» raised money for the orphanage. She was able to advance and danced a Rumba Flamenca with her partner which raised more money for the orphanage. Maria Lourdes is proof that a person with talent can also have a heart,
Carolina Diago who is a News Reporter and a Celebrity in Miami Florida is another example of how celebrity and charity can go hand in hand. She participated in the St Jude Hospital and Research Marathon in which she was able to raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital and Research in order to help children with incurable diseases. Carolina Diago deserves praise for her work and association with St. Jude’s Hospital and their research t o find a cure for childhood diseases.
In the year 2000, the Mexican American Group Sparx [from New Mexico] and Lorenzo Antonio decided to establish a foundation for those who are in their last year of high school but have the highest marks. The purpose of this foundation is a scholarship for the brightest students in New Mexico so that they could go to a university and improve their lives. Sparx and Lorenzo Antonio deserve all of the praise in helping Senior Students from New Mexican High Schools realize their potential.
Maria Lourdes, Carolina Diago, Sparx, and Lorenzo Antonio are but a few that have been mentioned for their charitable works. There are more that deserve to be mentioned and praised for their selfless behavior towards others in this time of Christmas 2008 and beyond.
