I had the honour and pleasure of visiting the People’s Republic of China in June and July of 2008. The occasion was for the Summer Olympics to be held in Beijing. What I saw was a China that was moving forward in the Olympics and towards its sixth decade as an Independent Nation after many years of oppression.
I remember hearing many people in the United States of America and the West write off China. I even remember some members of the Latin Community in the United States of America as well as in Latin America writing off China and looking to the United States of America as a powerhouse.
I remember seeing a China that became successful not because it took away ideas from other nations. I saw a China whose economy was marching forward since they have taken Communism to a higher level. The higher level has been to encourage people to be innovative in their work.
In addition to the Chinese Work Ethic which is one based on quality instead of quantity, the People’s Republic of China placed a heavy aspect on family, respect, culture, the desire to learn and apply such learning for the growth of the nation. All of this is occurring while the United States of America and the rest of the world is asleep.
I would like to correct myself; the United States of America as well as many Western nations has allowed themselves to be deluded into thinking that they are still a world class power. In the process, the public schools do not teach anything much less culture and respect which is necessary in order to form a progressive economy.
The people at least the majority do not want to work or take risks. It is a crime and a shame that this has to occur. While the United States of America and the West are still in their state of «We are the greatest» while the Emperor has no clothes, China has made inroads.
The company Haier which manufactures electronics as well as kitchen supplies, washer, dryers, and toilets has investments in Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Ecuador, and almost every country in the Western Hemisphere. Haier is a generous company to its employees in the United States of America compared to General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford.
Haier also has investments in Iran, Pakistan, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam which helps increase trade between these countries. Another company that is proof of progress with the People’s Republic of China has been the Energy Companies Petrochina and Sinopec. Both companies have signed deals of Oil and Natural Gas with Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan for investments in their countries in which trade benefits both sides.
The People’s Republic of China has also benefitted with the Shanghai Conference with the countries of Central Asia, South East Asia, and Russia which includes economic and cultural exchanges. There could be more to talk about but New China has come a long way in every sphere including the economy since the founding of New China in 1949
