COMUNICADO DE LAS DAMAS DE BLANCO

 

Por este medio deseamos comunicarle al Parlamento Europeo, Amnistía Internacional, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, Consejo de Derechos Humanos, Naciones Unidas, Relatores contra la tortura, ONGs de DDHH, embajadores y diplomáticos acreditados en Cuba y personalidades civiles que se solidarizan con la justicia y los derechos humanos.

 

Desde el pasado 20 de febrero Las Damas de Blanco están siendo víctimas de mayor represión y hostigamiento. El DSE o policía política detuvo, por varias horas a más de seis Damas, amenazándolas y presentándoles actas de advertencia. Además les han planteado que no pueden asistir a las actividades que tenemos programadas para el mes de marzo.

 

Recordamos que este año se cumplen seis años de la Primavera Negra de Cuba y por lo tanto, Las Damas de Blanco, realizaremos actividades seis días en recordación a tan nefasta fecha: “La Jornada VI Aniversario” comprendida del 1 7 al 22 de marzo del año en curso.

 

Nuestras actividades son pacíficas. No hacemos más que ejercer nuestro derecho de pedir la libertad de los presos políticos.

 

Responsabilizamos a la Seguridad del Estado y al Gobierno en general de cualquier agresión física o actos de repudios que nos propinen las tropas paramilitares disfrazadas de pueblo o a los propios oficiales de organismos represivos.

COMMUNIQUE FROM THE LADIES IN WHITE

 

The following is a communiqué from the Damas de Blanco [Spanish for Ladies in White] who are an organization in Cuba fighting NON VIOLENTLY for respect of human rights. 

 

It is something that I have decided to share with Now Public.

 

I have translated this from Spanish to English so that the whole world can be testimony to what is transpiring.

“We have written to the European Parliament, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, Council for Human Rights, United Nations, People against torture as well as various agencies, and embassies who are in solidarity with the concept of liberty and human rights”.

 

Since the 20^th of February 2009, the Damas de Blanco are victims of the worst repression ever witnessed in Cuba. The DSE or Political Secret Police have detained for various hours without due process, have threatened them, and have prohibited them from assisting in programs planed for March 2009.

 

It is six years since the Spring Repression in Cuba and we have demonstrated every year to commemorate this period of infamy in Cuba’s History.

 

We are a peaceful people and our activities our peaceful, and non violent. We are exercising our right to ask for the liberation of political prisoners.

 

We will hold responsible the State Security and the Government of Cuba for any type of physical aggression, acts of repudiation received from the paramilitary troops and police who are dressed as civilians. We will also hold responsible any organism of the Government of Cuba for the same”.
