After so many days of wandering yes or no, Florida finally has confirmed two cases of swine flu. Florida Governor Charlie Crist and the Secretary of Health for the state Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros made the announcement.
Governor Crist has declared a state of emergency and is in the process of identifying more people with H1N1. The cases that were isolated are a 17 year old girl from Broward County and an 11 year old from Lee County.
Since the boy is a student of Spring Creek Elementary School, the school will be closing for one week. The girl is a student of Hallandale High School which will close until Wednesady. The gril had returned from a trip to Mexico.
While Florida has reported a case of Influenza A H1N1, there is no reason to alarm. Again, I would like to condemn those who have used the H1N1 to incite hatred on racial and ethnic grounds.
An example has been a radio broadcaster from Alabama who has made comments of a racial nature about Mexicans. Another has been a Georgia Senator from the Republican Party whose comments cannot be printed in this site.
Another who deserves to be blamed for inciting a fear factor has been Maricopa County Sheriff called Arpaio. Arpaio has again blamed the Mexicans for the Influenza A Virus in an interview with Neil Caputo on FOX Television.
There exists a need for control in ALL aspects of the pandemic including psychological.
