It was on the weekend of Mothers Day 2009 that the Houston Dynamo played against the FC Dallas in the MLS Game known as the Lone Star Battle. Both teams had to win in order to have a chance to classify for the MLS Cup around the end of this year.
Houston appeared to have dominated the game from the beginning with its consistency and discipline. It also had the advantage of its team being played in its home turf at Robertson Stadium. While the first half was more like a warm up, the second half was full of excitement
In the second half, Kei Kamara surprised the spectators with a spectacular goal [57 minutes] in which is head deflected the ball to the left half of the net. The response was a big celebration in the stadium with people unfurling flags of Texas and the Houston Dynamo.
In spite of one yellow card for Brad Davis in 63 minutes, Houston was able to maintain its lead. There was one period in which Dallas also equalized almost at the last minute but the goal keeper was able to prevent the attempted goal. It appears that Houston is now learning from past mistakes and has a desire to continue its winning streak.
It would be wise to add that the substitutions for Houston helped a lot as well.
FC Dallas on the other hand was making mistake after mistake in its game. The mistakes were made in spite of the fact that there were times when FC Dallas had possession of the ball.
The game went from bad to worse with three yellow cards for FC Dallas Players Wagner at 31 minutes, Rico Ferreira at 62 minutes, and Wagner at 75 minutes. The substitutions in FC Dallas did not help either.
In the end, Houston was able to maintain its lead and its standing in the Western
Conference. Currently, Houston is in third place in the MLS Western Conference while FC Dallas is in the bottom.
The most valued player of the game was Kei Kamara for his quick thinking which lead him to deflect the ball in order to score. It remains to be seen if the Houston Dynamo can continue their winning streak.
