The US Latin Station Univision has a programe called «Primer Impacto». On the 18th of May 2009, «Primer Impacto» dedicated a segment to the members of the Armed Forces that have contemplated suicide.
During the program, Michelle Cartagena who is a Social Worker who works as a Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the VA in Miami Florida was interviewed by the prestigious program and station.
During the interview, Ms. Cartagena addressed the needs of the patient who contemplates suicide to talk with family, friends, and to their counselors as well as Health Professionals including Physicians, Nurses, and Social Workers.
She also invited those who need help or are at a crossroads between wanting to live or not to call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK. It was great to hear Ms. Cartagena discuss the need to address a subject that has been taboo for a long time.
Univision and Primer Impacto including the presenter Satcha Pretto, and the producer Margarita Rabin deserve thanks and praise as well for bringing the subject of suicide prevention.
