FIFA has announced that it is giving away free 2009 Confederation Cup Tickets for the game between Spain and the United States of America. Nicholas Maingot who is the head of the media for FIFA talked about the need for South Africans to buy tickets to support «teams especially during the match between Spain and South Africa«.
FIFA has been handing out tickets in schools and other venues in an attempt to offset the lack of people in stadiums in places such as Rustenburg. Mr. Maingot has also declared that the next games will be dedicated to «No To Racism» in football and outside football. He has stated that football has taken strides but that racism has to be exposed and elimiated off and on the field.
While the motive may have been almost empty stadiums, FIFA is doing a good thing when it comes to promoting football and tolerance within football. It is hoped that the 2009 Confederation Cup between Spain and the USA is played without any problems and with the desire that the best team wins.
After all, the important factor is not winning but that people who love football can enjoy the game.
