On June 24, 2009; the world of Soccer underwent another historical moment. It occurred in the 2009 Confederation Cup in South Africa. It is a moment that deserves to be a major film in Hollywood.

It was the greatest upset in the world when the United States defeated Spain in the semi finals of this event. It is the equivalent of the genie being let out of the bottle.

The underwriter was unable to see the game but found out about the victory when he arrived home from work. His Father in Law informed him about the USA defeating Spain in this all too important game.

His initial reaction was belief, happiness, and caution. The initial emotions were followed by one of elation after the reality of the news started to sink in the mind of this writer. It was not expected.

The pundits did not give the USA an opportunity to win even one game. They predicted that Egypt, Brazil, and Italy would eliminate them. Everything appeared to be scripted with Brazil and Italy using the US Soccer Team like a janitor using a wet mop to clean the floor.

The supporters of the US Soccer team received criticisms from those who did not or refuse to understand it. The criticisms turned to sarcasm and insults such as «The Americans cannot play soccer». It is this criticism that occurred in American soil.

What happened was more than just a miracle but a determination to not allow the pundits to rule the day. The USA played against Egypt and while the game appeared to be in favour of Egypt, the US Soccer Team carried the day. Finally, there was hope in the possibility of soccer in America.

While many supporters were willing to conform to a victory over Egypt, the surprise was over the horizon. Dempsey and Altidore scored their two goals over a Spain with a never ending winning streak.

It appears that the US Soccer Team has come of age since America hosted the 1994 World Cup. Soccer is here to stay in America as people start taking up the sport and others write about the US Soccer team.

The history of the US Soccer Team as well as Soccer in America is being written every day and will continue to evolve. All that could be said is Congratulations to the US Soccer Team on an impressive victory.
