Juanes Receives Death Threats For Planned Cuba Concert

It appears that the controversy surrounding the Juanes concert for peace [or for liberty] in Cuba has not abated. According to the US Latin Station Univision, the Colombian Rock Singer Juanes reported that his life and the life of his family has been threatened.

He also lives in Miami with his pregnant wife and the messages were threats received in his Twitter account. He filed a complaint with the Key Biscayne Police and once considered suspending the concert.

Juanes decided not to suspend the concert which is due on September 2009 saying that the threats «reinforced his desire to do it [the concert].» The radio and TV stations in Miami Florida have been filled with accusations and counteraccusations as to who were the intellectual authors of the threats.

The underwriter still reiterates his desire for Juanes to perform in Cuba since it is his right. The people who oppose the concert should not use threats or acts of repudiation. The people who oppose Juanes concert in Cuba can boycott his CD’s and concerts without so much noise. The concept of music should be separated from politics.

The concept of the separation of music from politics leads the underwriter to investigate information as to Juanes refusing to have performed in Honduras to protest the events in that country. If that is true, then he should also separate music from politics since an artist should have the right to perform [if he or she wants to] in all four corners of the world.

The underwriter is a music lover who loves music for the sake of loving it.

In closing, the «Concert For Peace» will include the following artists:  Silvio Rodriguez, Carlos Vives, Juan Fernando Velasco, Luis Fonsi, Miguel Bose, Olga Ta~non, and Enrique Iglesias.
