Is Jessica Simpson For Real Or Is It Histrionic Personality Disorder?

A Satire about Jessica Simpson

Before answering the question about Jessica Simpson having a histrionic personality disorder, it would be wise to discuss the term. According to the American Psychiatric Association and the Cleveland Clinic, it is defined as series of dramatic personality disorders characterized by intense and unstable emotions as well as low self esteem.

One of the biggest characteristics is the desire for attention. While people crave attention, there are others who crave it in excess especially people starting their artistic careers in reality TV Shows. In the case of Jessica Simpson, she started her career with the MTV Reality TV Show called «Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica» before dumping Nick to seek better opportunities. This was her first foray into having a histrionic personality since she could have cared less if the public saw her doing sex naked or using the toilet.

Jessica Simpson in order to compensate for the near lack of talent as well as receive the attention she craves starred in films that were disasters in their own right. One example was when she announced that she would participate in the «modern» version of «The Dukes of Hazards». She destroyed the film and converted an American classic into a cheesy cheap film which deserved the Raspberries. Her rendition of the Nancy Sinatra hit in the film «These Boots Were Made For Walking» was another example of her histrionic personality.

Ms. Simpson showed all of herself and forced herself on the willing actors in her rendition of the song like telling them [in a mental way}: «I need your attention, come to me». The various Christian Evangelical groups condemned her for «too much sex» and she seemed to relish the attention by responding that she was «glad that she did not go into the Christian Music Industry». The response was that negative attention was better than positive attention.

The attempts of Jessica Simpson to convert into a country music singer were another example of her histrionic personality disorder. She wanted to show the world that she was a great talent and at the same time needed to be in front of the camera. The response of the people in the festival which took place in Wisconsin was to boo her as she walked on the stage. It appeared that she enjoyed the negative attention since for her, it was better than no attention.

In closing, Jessica Simpson has a very severe case of Histrionic Personality Disorder. The subject matter could be discussed further in entertainment shows as well as medical conventions. The treatment is psychotherapy and the hope that it does not progress as Ms. Simpson ages.
