Citizens Stop Abusive Property Taxes Increase
A majority of Miami-Dade Commissioners comply with public outcry
MIAMI, FL – Massive protests against an abusive property tax by citizens from the entire county prodded Miami-Dade County Commissioners to vote last Thursday against a proposed property tax increase.
Organized by Fair Property Tax For All, Inc. (FPTA), a non-partisan, grassroots organization defending all Miami-Dade residents, as well as numerous other citizen groups, the protests got what many political experts said was impossible: a majority of the County Commission rejecting the tax increase sought by Miami-Dade Strong Mayor, Carlos Alvarez.
FPTA asked for an unthinkable 35 per cent property tax reduction. In turn, it achieved the completely derailing a tax increase sought by the Mayor against an impoverished and exploited community that has the highest unemployment rate in Florida. No one expected it.
«Hispanic voters spoke clearly: We will kick out of office any commissioner that votes for increasing a property tax that is financially destroying our families. And, at least, all the Hispanic commissioners listened,» declares FPTA President Dr. José H. Valladares.
«Once more we see that a united community achieves what it set out to achieve. But, this is just the begining. We still have much to do,» points out FPTA Secretary Dr. Eladio José Armesto. «Very soon FPTA will make public a County Budget Rescue Plan based upon what the people have been vigorously demanding in recent years,» he adds.

The correct cost should be $1,888.
A family of four (4) currently is forced to pay on average $11,600 for county government.
Please keep in mind these figures do not include school board, municipal or other taxing authorities. If you add these in, the figure would exceed $5,000 per person ($20,000 + for a family of four) and this figure does not include state and federal taxes.
In 1993 essential and other services provided by the county we re more than adequate: criminals did not control our streets, houses did not burn down by the dozen, and people were not dying of starvation in the streets. So why is there an increase of over 35% in real dollars adjusted for inflation and population growth?
Miami-Dade County Government is out of control. In raising our taxes in this unprecedented manner, our families have been affected and our homes invaded. Only we the citizens can reverse this situation by truly becoming involved. Otherwise we will have to either move or continue to pay for a bloated, intrusive and inefficient bureaucracy.
This is not about not raising taxes; this is about pushing for a 35% reduction in county expenditures and in turn OUR PROPERTY TAXES.
Call and or email the following Commissioners NOW: Tell them you have had enough of this abuse. Tell them that you are AGAINST any new taxes. Tell them that you are holding them personally responsible for any further taxes increases. Commit them to REDUCE property taxes by 35%.
