It appears that both sides of the Florida Straits are preparing for the Juanes Concert for Peace In Cuba with the artists and tourists arriving. The people in Cuba have been preparing for this for a long time with stands being placed in La Habana Cuba.
Juanes has been interviewed by Oscar Haza who is the host of the America Teve 41 Round Table Discussion Show called ‘A Mano Limpia» [Clean Hands]. Juanes declared that he has a surprise song that he wrote for the occasion.
Olga Ta~non declared in an interview with the US Latin TV Station Univision that it was her dream to perform in Cuba, Her inspiration was Father Dario who did missions in Cuba and helped people in the process. She is also supporting Juanes in his concert for peace saying that there should be music instead of politics.
Univision as well as other US Latin Stations announced that they will transmit the live concert from Cuba via television and live stream from the internet. This announcement is for those who are interested in seeing and hearing the concert.
This is the first time that the above mentioned radio and TV Stations will transmit to a large segment of the American Continent including the US Latin Community. Regardless, there have been detractors such as the program «Derechos Reservados» hosted by Fernando Castells and Graciela Mori on GEMS TV.
They based their reason on the lack of freedom, democracy, and peace in Cuba.
The underwriter believes that Juanes and the other participants of the Concert For Peace have a right to participate in a concert in Cuba, North Korea, Iran, or any place they like to perform. While the concert may not resolve the political situation in Cuba and the rest of the American Continent, it may be a relief albeit a temporary one.
After all, it is the politicians and governments who have caused the mess that exists in Cuba and the rest of the American Continent with their Cold War Rhetoric, Hatred, Bigotry, Divisions, and Warmongering. Maybe it is time to heed the words of John Lennon and «Give Peace A Chance».
The underwriter is saying this taking into account that Cuba remains a Communist Dictatorship run by Castro. He understands that once a group called Los Pacificos [The Peace Makers] were once arrested for doing a rock concert in Cuba during the 1960’s when the genre was banned and people were put in prison for listening to it.
The people who want to protest can do so in a peaceful manner by boycotting the recordings and concerts of those who participated in the Concert For Peace. After all, it will not make the concert go away since there is another one planned for the border between the USA and Mexico.
The people who have a right to protest are those who left Cuba and never returned to visit, including family, and have not dealt with the Government of Cuba since starting their lives as exile. The people who protest but have visited Cuba or dealt with the government since beginning their lives as exiles have to look at their conscience and think what they are doing.
The opinions of the underwriter have been based on the personal experience of having to endure family division [the writer and half of his family in the USA and the other half in Cuba] because of the myopic arbitrary decisions of the Governing Elite in Cuba and the United States of America.
