In another twist in the saga of Alberto Cutie and Ruhamma Canellis story, Ms. Canellis spoke with Univision reporter Teresa Rodriguez in the weekly program «Aqui y Ahora» [Here and Now]. During the interview, she made revelations that were yet unknown to people.
She revealed her reactions about becoming entering the limelight in light of the scandal. It is not easy transforming from a person who is unknown to someone in the limelight. She did not want her relationship to be exposed in a way that it was in the press. Ms. Canellis also revealed that the only division was the Catholic Church [in its celibacy policy] not love.
During the interview, Ms. Cannelis revealed that the love between her and Alberto Cutie was «love at first sight» and both tried to hold back the love. They were unable to hold back the love. There were further revelations that the couple intended to make public their love for each other before the scandal broke.
When the scandal broke, Ms. Cannelis tried to explain to her son what was happening. Her son accepted everything without problems. It was also revealed that Alberto Cutie wanted «ten children» but she said with one or two is fine. She also revealed about how Alberto Cutie proposed and how both have been involved in helping the poor people in Central America since their wedding last summer.
Ms. Canellis’ son and best friends were interviewed and they had no complaints about what has happened. They defended Ms. Cannelis as a decent and educated professional who was the victim of the «negative publicity» promoted by the press. Leo Frade who is the Episcopal Priest for the Miami area said that the Catholic Church and The Episcopal Church were like two football teams. He added that «Alberto Cutie chose the team that allowed him to express the desire to marry».
While the underwriter was viewing the interview, he reviewed many of the articles written about the scandal including his own. He has also seen the couple in social gatherings in Miami Florida. The impression of the underwriter was one of a family that is united, nice, and decent.
While the protagonists of this story including the press should have handled things differently, it could not be denied that they [Alberto Cutie and Ruhamma Canellis] are in love. Whatever has happened in the past could be examined in the context of what ocurred in 1936 when Edward VIII abdicated the throne of England for the woman he loved.
At a time when the world is surrounded by news of terrorism, dictators, wars, and threats of wars; maybe this love story was needed for the world to see that there is some good news although at times it could be blown out of proportion.
