It appears that the saga of Sven-Goram Eriksson never ends. After accepting the post of director of football for Notts County, there are people who have been reporting of contact between officials of Notts County and the North Korean Football Association.
According to the reports, the North Korean Football [Soccer] Association is trying to lure Eriksson away from Notts County and hire him as a coach [on an interim basis] of the North Korean Football Association during the 2010 World Cup.
Eriksson was the Manchester City coach sacked by its owner Thaksin Shinawatra and was also sacked by Mexico before accepting his current post at Notts County. He was also prominent in the English National Team as a manager before his move to Manchester City.
Mr. Eriksson has said that he was on a business trip to Asia to promote Notts County in preparations for its 150th anniversary. Notts County has denied any talks with North Korea.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea [North Korea] has classified for the 2010 World Cup for the first time in more than 40 years. It appears that they want to participate in the World Cup with an intention of winning.
At the present time, North Korea is ranked in 90th place in the world ranking and 10th in the Asian ranking of the FIFA Coca Cola World Ranking. They qualified after a 0-0 game against Saudi Arabia.
The underwriter is of the belief that Eriksson will not move to North Korea. It would be a mistake to accept a temporary post that may prove to be worse than the experience with Thaksin Shinawatra or the Mexican team. The reasons stated is the possibility of a loss in the 2010 World Cup and the possibility of losing face especially when the leader of North Korea is Kim Jong Il.
