FIFA Launches New Award For «Best Goal Of The Year»

The President of FIFA Joseph S. Blatter unveiled a new award from the organization during a ceremony in the Ferenc Puskas Academy in Budapest, Hungary,  The award is called the FIFA Puskas Award and its purpose is to honor the «finest goal» of the year.

The award [according to Blatter] is to honor Ferenc Puskas and his contributions to football [soccer] as well as the «philosophy surrounding the game». The Prime Minister of Hungary as well as European Parliament Vice President and Puskas Widow was present. They also remembered the era of Puskas during football [soccer].

The award in itself is laudable but FIFA should also take steps to reinforce rules against hooliganism. FIFA should also apply stricter punishments for Maradona for his tirade against the press, other players, and other teams. An example of such strict punishment would be for FIFA to force the Argentinian Football Association to make Maradona redundant [fired].
