I have been a football [soccer] supporter since my visit to Germany and Switzerland in 1973. I started to hear soccer games on my shortwave radio and support teams such as Brazil, Spain, and Germany.
When I lived in Venezuela, I would listen to soccer games on TV and on my shortwave radio. The same applied in places such as the Dominican Republic, other parts of Europe [such as Spain], and the USA.
Many people thought that I was crazy but there was something inside of me that said that football [soccer] would triumph in America. The World Cup in 1994 in the USA said the clock in motion and the rest os history.
Regardless, there were detractors at home and abroad. The maysayers in American sports talked about a fad yet they were the same people the said the saem thing about rock and roll.
I was once interviewed by a Sports Broadcaster from the BBC who expressed his doubts.
The reaction from his face was that of an open mouth when I told him about a person who drove from Phoenix to Seattle and then to Chicago to see Manchester United.
I would write about football [soccer] in a blog. I even wrote about soccer for Univision in 2006 and converted to US Soccer at the same time.
Since then, I have promoted the US Soccer Team in many places including China. It would be great to have the World Cup in the USA since it would show that America has matured as a football [soccer] country.
It would be an injustice and a slap on the face to the supporters of soccer in the USA if the World Cup is not held in America in 2018 or 2022.
