The US Football [Soccer] Team played their friendlies against Slovenia and Denmark. What happened was that they lost to both teams and there was no reason for that to occur. The US Soccer Team had managed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and win the CONCACAF Championship in 2009 only to sputter at the end of the year.
According to the FIFA Coca Cola World Ranking as of the 16th of October 2009, the USA is in eleventh place with 1,025 points followed by Slovenia in 49th place with 663 points, and Denmark in 27th place with 830 points. The lesson to be learned is that statistics do not determine a game. It is the team and the desire to play that determines a victory or a defeat.
The US Soccer Team suffers from the problem of being unable to maintain a momentum. They win games and lose them. The games that are lost at times is because of the inablity to maintain the concentration and consistency during the game. It appears that both decrease during the game.
It is a shame since the US Soccer Team is organizing an effort to bring the 2018 or 2022 World Cup to the USA. If this is successful, it would be the first World Cup in the USA since 1994. The USA has matured and grown in the football [soccer] world and it deserves to be host of a World Cup or even win in 2010.
The US Soccer Team must find more friendlies to practice and win in order to be serious contenders in the 2010 World Cup and the bid to host the 2018/2022 World Cup. It must win games by maintaining its concentration and consistency during the friendlies. It should also play as a disciplined team so that many contenders in football [soccer] will take notice.
It remains to be seen what will happen but the history of US Soccer will continue to be written even if they do not win the 2010 World Cup.
