The 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year Award Should Go To Messi

The world is preparing for the FIFA World Player of the Year Award to be held on the 21st of December 2009 in Zurich, Switzerland. The five candidates for the prestigious award are Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xavi, Messi, and Andres Iniesta.

In order to understand what is at stake, the process must be explained. A group of experts from the FIFA Football Committee draw up a list of suitable candidates and submit them to a vote before the captains and coaches of national teams that belong to FIFA. It is of the understanding of the underwriter that Maradona was not present.

The coaches and captains select five nominees with the result of electing one person for the coveted trophy. After the selection, FIFA has its annual gala in which the 11 best players are honoured and the winner receives the Puskas Award for the best goal. Ronaldo, and Kaka appear to be candidates that are the least favoured.

The three from FC Barcelona Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta are possible candidates given their participation in the best season for the club. According to the pundits, Messi appears to be have the biggest possibility of winning the award.

In the opinion of the underwriter, Messi deserves to win the award. One of the reasons has been his performance during the last games for FC Barcelona. .

Messi was the principal architect of the 3-1 victory in the La Liga game against Deportivo. It was during this game that he scored twice with the first goal being a shot with the low left foot. The second goal was one in which Messi used his head. He was also instrumental in the victory of FC Barcelona over Real Zaragoza.

While Keita was instrumental in the goals, Messi collaborated by helping FC Barcelona in its 6-1 victory over the team. He has also participated with the Argentina National Football [Soccer] Team in the 2008 Olympics.

While the award deals with the best goals, Messi also deserves the award for being able to tolerate the abuse that Maradona [Coach of the Argentine Natiional Team] must be throwing at him. It is hoped that if Messi wins, it will be a new beginning for Football [Soccer] in Argentina and the World.
