Andrea Bocelli «My Christmas» CD The Best in 2009

The best Christmas Album to be released in a long time has been «My Christmas» by the Italian Opera Singer Andrea Bocelli. His album rivals even the version recorded by his fellow countryman Luciano Pavarotti in the early 1980’s in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal, Quebec in Canada.

The album was created in cooperation with the famous arranger, producer, and musician David Foster as well as artists such as Natalia Cole, Reba Mc Entire, Katherine Jenkins, Natalie Cole, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Mary J. Blige, and the Muppets. He starts the album with his rendition of «White Christmas» in Italian and English.

The feeling upon hearing this rendition is that of imagining a person looking at the decorations that symbolize Christmas. Andrea Bocelli continues with «Angels We Have Heard On High» in Italian and English. The interpretation by Andrea Bocelli was one of the greatest and a person could imagine the presence of the Virgin Mary, Joseph, and the Baby Jesus in the manger with the Three Kings and the Shepherds watching them.

The song «Santa Claus Is Coming To Town» was also a great song which was followed by the classic «The Christmas Song». «The Christmas Song» was a Christmas Carol popularized by the singer Nat King Cole during the last years of his life. The duo with Natalie Cole [whose father was Nat King Cole] was superb and served as a form of justice for the song. Andrea Bocelli or whoever invited Natalie Cole to sing this carol deserves praise for the insight of such a decision.

The interpretation of «The Lord’s Prayer» with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir serves as a powerful reason for the existence of Christmas. Christmas is not just about Santa Claus or exchanging gifts. Christmas is about the presence of the Lord in our lives and it is actually the birthday of Jesus Christ who came to save us from our sins.

«What Child Is This» was a duo with the renowned singer Mary J. Blige. The song reinforces the message of how God could have sent soldiers or a powerful king to liberate Earth but decided to send a Baby. It could be imagined how tender the Baby Jesus was when he was born and how he looked up at his parents, the shepherds, and the Three Kings.

The traditional songs of «Adeste Fideles» and «O Tannenbaum» harkens to the European traditions of Christmas past and connects our present world with its roots based on the past of Christmas including the birth of Baby Jesus. The song «Jingle Bells» with the Muppets was relaxing and one could imagine the sleigh with Bocelli and the Muppets.

The song «Blue Christmas in a duo with Reba Mc Entire reflects a traditional song made popular by the late Elvis Pressley. The rendition while it has its touch of sadness is an American Tradition whose interpretation would have made Elvis proud. The rest of the songs such as «Silent Night», «Cantique Du Noel», «Caro Gesu Bambino», and «God Bless Us Everyone» are other great songs which reinforce the message of Jesus being the reason for the season.

The song «I Believe» which was interpreted in a duo with Katherine Jenkins is the 21st Century version of the reaffirmation of the belief in Jesus Christ and the reason for celebrating Christmas. At a time when Christianity and Christmas comes under attack by those who do not believe it, it is this song that should be sung on all of the corners of the world as a reaffirmation of faith.

The underwriter gives the album «My Christmas» by Andrea Bocelli a ten out of ten.
