The Africa Cup of Nations has been a surprsing one since its beginning. The biggest surprise was the defeat of one of the Giants of African Football Cameroon to Gabon in one of the biggest upsets of the event.

The defeat of Cameroon left it stunned especially since it has been a four time champion and has been a participant of the World Cup. It appeared that Gabon did its homework and started the game from an offensive.

The Gabonese team took advantage of the weakness and disorganization of the Cameroon team. The end result was Cousin scoring the first and only goall for the team at 17 minutes. The goalkeeper Ovono Ebang was able to deflect various attempts by Cameroon to score.

Achille Emana and Samuel Eto’o were unable to execute brilliant plays in order to equalize or win the game. One of the blogs reporting on African Football called Nigeria Village Square reported on the problems of the Cameroon National Football Team. 

 The author of the article in the blog [Elie Smith] reported that the weakness of Cameroon was «diversion of funds for private use», as well as «poor organization». The same article talked about Joseph Antonie Bell who was a goalkeeper for the Cameroonian Team.

Mr. Bell addressed many of the problems of his country’s football team in an interview with Radio France Internationale such as «poor organization», «fire brigade preparation», and the «inability to win one continental football competition». The response was to brand Mr. Bell a traitor and a doomsday prophet.

Regardless of what has happened, it is hoped that Cameroon could one day find a way to greatness and save what could be saved of its participation in the Africa Cup Of Nations.
