Maradona Earrings Auctioned

Italy was the center of an auction of earrings and not just any earring. The earring that belonged to Maradona was sold for 25,000 Euros to a woman from the city of Bolzano. The earring had the original price of 8000 Euros.

The earring was sold as a way to receive money from taxes that Maradona owed to Italy from the time he played for the Napoli Football Club during the late 1980’s. Maradona owes Italy 36 Million Euros and an association of Italian Taxpayers have concluded that his debt accumulated 22.4 Million Euros in interest.

Maradona once served a ban from Napoli for cocaine use.

The story of the earrings originates from the time Maradona went to Italy and the police confiscated it. The police also confiscated two Rolex Watches during another trip to Italy. It appears that since Maradona cannot be arrested since the statute of limitations of tax laws in Italy, whatever he has of value can be confiscated in order to pay taxes.

The woman was asked about her purchase and she said that she was «satisfied». It appears that there will be more news about Maradona as the days and months progress towards the 2010 World Cup.
