The news emanating from England has been the twelve minute announcement by Fabio Capello [Manager] to sack John Terry as Captain. The news is a reaction to evidence of an affair between John Terry and the Ex Girlfriend of Wayne Bridge [who also plays for England].
What was John Terry thinking when he was having the affair? He had the prestige of being Captain of one of the most powerful teams in the World Cup as well as being a defender of the Chelsea FC.
The position of Captain of the English Football [Soccer] Team carries a bade of honour that only those who have occupied it know. The person who occupies the position has the duty to act above and beyond reproach. The position in the opinion of the underwriter is an institution.
The affair was a sore point in the team and could have threatened the unity of the English Football [Soccer] Team if allowed to fester. Fabio Capello acted in accordance as Manager of the English National Football [Soccer] Team in removing him.
Capello did not act in accordance as a Manager by replacing Terry with Rio Ferdinand as Captain. It appears that Capello forgot that Rio Ferdinand received a four game ban for unprofessional conduct against Hull Striker Craig Fagan and then appealing it.
Wayne Rooney could have been a better replacement for Terry but it remains to be seen what will happen with Rio Ferdinand.
