Atlante faced Cruz Azul in one of the important games of the Mexican League. The game was to have served as a rehearsal for the CONCACAF Champuions League game between Cruz Azul and Pachuca.
The result was not what I expected from Cruz Azul after their triumph over Pachuca in their last game. Cruz Azul appeared to be playing without any sense of direction while Atlante was able to dominate the field and game with their consistency.
Atlante even came close to scoring some goals until Johan Fano was able to do it in 39 minutes. Mr. Fano had the ball and he kicked it in with his left foot directly to the center of the goal post. His decisive kick left the goalie for Cruz Azul in a state of shock.
Afterwards, Cruz Azul continued to play without any desire to win and forgetting that this was a dress rehearsal for the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League Game. Atlante on the other hand were able to pass the ball between its players in an attempt to score more goals.
Regardless, they were able to play a great game even though it lacked the electricity of the game between Cruz Azul and Pachuca or Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. It is hoped that Cruz Azul would get its act together.
The most valued player of the game was Johan Fano for his artistic method in scoring a goal.
Atlante 1-0 Cruz Azul
In other news from the Mexican League, Pachuca [which will be facing Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Champions League] lost their Mexican League game to Atlas. Pachuca was scoreless while Atlas scored two goals.
It remains to be seen whether Pachuca and Cruz Azul will have a great CONCACAF Champions Game or if it will be a game in which the thrill was gone.
