Emmanuel Adebayor: A Personal Reflection

The world of International Football Nations Adebayor or Soccer suffered a rude awakening when Emmanuel Adebayor from Togo announced that he was turning his back on International Football. He was the player from Togo who represented his country in its National Football/Soccer Team as well as having played for Manchester City.

He had a lot going for him before the tragedy that befell on the Togo National Football/Soccer Team on the Eighth of January 2010 during the 2010 Africa Cup of hosted by Angola. The Togo National Football/Soccer Team were on their way [from their training camp in the Republic of Congo [another country north of Cabinda] to play their first game in the province of Cabinda in Angola when their truck was ambushed by people claiming to be the FLEC [Liberation Front for the Enclave of Cabinda].

Cabinda is a part of Angola separated from the rest of the country by a swath of territory in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The territory has been the scene of fighting between those who want independence for Cabinda and those who support the Status Quo of Angola in Cabinda. Regardless of the politics, what happened to the players resulted in deaths and injuries of a physical and psychological nature.

The immediate reaction was the withdrawal of the Togo National Football/Soccer Team from contention in the 2010 Africa Cup Of Nations. Togo was punished unfairly by the organizers of the event without taking into account what transpired and not providing enough security in the event. The biggest loss was the decision of Emmanuel to cut short his rising star in the stage of International Football/Soccer.

While the world of international football or soccer praises his decision or condemns it is another factor. The people who condemn Emmanuel Adebayor for his action do not take into account the physical or psychological well being of the international football/soccer player. They [the people who criticize the decision by Emmanuel Adebayor] prefer to think of the player and are like the greedy king who wanted more gold from the goose who laid the golden egg.

I support the decision by Emmanuel Adebayor to turn his back on international football/soccer on the basis of his health and well being. He deserves to enjoy his retirement or at least use it to get himself together. It is preferrable at times to rest and find treatment for a trauma than to do something not so well. I hope the best for Emmanuel Adebayor in his life
