The Honduran National Football/Soccer Team faced Venezuela in the Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The purpose was for the Honduran National Football/Soccer Team to rehearse before heading towards South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. It was also the last time that the people of Honduras were to see their team play before they left for South Africa by way of other countries.
Honduras is in Group H with Spain, Switzerland, and Chile vying for the top spot in the group. The first half was a half hearted attampt by both teams to dominate the field even though Honduras had the home country advantage. The people were inpatient for a goal but both teams were unable to exceute a cross or other forms of passing the ball between the players.
The end of the first half ended with a whimper as both teams did nothing. The second half started with a goal by Francisco Flores for the Venezuelan National Football/Soccer Team in 51 minutes. Regardless, Venezuela was unable to follow through after the goal and returned to its previous pattern of play. Honduras attempted to equalize but it appeared that they did not have their heart in the game.
Venezuela appeared not to have their heart nor soul on the game but continued to battle on. It appeared that the team just simply wanted to hold on in order to avoid an equalizer or a victory by the home team. Venezuela managed to prevail in the end but the team was not a willing winner. Honduras appeared fatigue from all of the games and I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt on this subject.
Honduras is going to have put more teeth in its game if it wants to be a serious contender in a Group full of heavyweights.Honduras will face Azerbaijian on May 27, 2010 followed by another game against Belarus on June 2, 2010. The Central American country will also face Romania on June 5, 2010. The three games will played in Austria before the Hondurans go to South Africa.
In other news from the Honduran National Football/Soccer Team, Porfirio Lobo [who is the President of Honduras] has announced that he will make a trip to South Africa to watch the first game between Honduras and Chile. He will also support the team in its quest for the 2010 World Cup. He has expressed confidence that the team will come out on top in the 2010 World Cup.
It will be interesting to see what will transpire.
