Tigres UANL 1-2 Pachuca In 2010 Mexican Bicentennial Tournament

Pachuca and Tigres UANL faced each other on a crucial Mexican League game in Estadio Universitario in the city of Monterrey in the State of Nuevo Leon Mexico on the 24th of April 2010. The stakes were high for both teams since Tigres needed a win in order to qualify for the possibilities of advancing to the Mexican League Finals [which is called the 2010 Bicentennial Tournament to celebrate 200 years of Mexican Independence from Spain].

The Tigres also needed a win since the game was held in their home stadium in front of their fans.

Pachuca [also known as Los Tuzos] needed to win as a way of proving they are still active as a team. Pachuca was using this game as a dress rehearsal for their upcoming CONCACAF Champions League game against Cruz Azul on the 28th of April 2010. Both teams started the first half with the intent of dominating the game.Edgar Benitez Santander got the ball rolling by scoring the first goal on the basis of a penalty.

He kicked the ball with majesty directly into the center of the goal post with his right foot. The goal surprised the goal keeper of Tigres UANL and the rest of the stadium leaving them demoralized. It did not help much that Tigres were unable to organize an attempt at equalizing. The first half ended with Tigres not scoring yet Pachuca was having problems in organizing itself in a consistent manner.

The second half went from bad to worse for the Tigres until the last minute with Edgar Benitez Santander scoring another goal on the basis of a penalty. Mr. Benitez had scored his fifth goal in the 2010 Mexican League Tournament. Lucas Lobo of the Tigres UANL was ejected after using violence against one of the members of Pachuca. Tigres also received a setback when Itamar Batista was injured and had to leave the field.

Itamar Batista has received 8 red cards during the Mexican League Bicentennial Tournament which was the most received in this event.

The Tigres were able to revive their fortunes and were close to scoring an equalizer but the clock worked against them and Pachuca was able to win. Regardless, Pachuca was disorganized in their game plans and it was a miracle that they won. Pachuca won due to the scores by penalty of Edgar Benitez Santander who is the most valued player of the game.

Pachuca now has to face Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Champions League Game. The only thing in their favor is that it will be played in their home stadium.
