Chivas of Guadalajara 3-0 Velez Sarsfeld Copas Libertadores

Chivas of Guadalajara played an impressive game against the Argentinian team Velez Sarsfeld in the Estadio Jalisco located in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. It was a game that Chivas needed to win in order to reverse the series of defeats and tie games that affected it during the 2010 Mexican Bicentennial Tournament. The game was part of the Copa Libertadores Series.

In the beginning, Chivas was nervous since it was suffering from the trauma of many defeats after a string of victories. Velez Sarsfeld wanted to use this against Chivas and almost started to score goals. The goalkeeper for Chivas Liborio Sanchez deflected many attempts by Velez Sarsfeld to score and inspired others in Chivas to play a great game for the people of Mexico.

Chivas started to wake up and Omar Bravo scored the first goal within the 25th minute. He kicked the ball with his feet and German Marcelo Montoya [who is the goalkeeper for Velez Sarsfeld] was unable to deflect the ball. The ball and the kick was too fast for Montoya and his reaction was that of surprise and frustration as the spectators of Estadio Jalisco celebrated their teams’ first goal.

It appeared that Velez Sarsfeld never recovered from their loss and Chivas started to dominate the field with discipline, tenacity, and a desire to play. Chivas also wanted to prove to the people of Mexico and the world that they deserved to win the Copa Libertadores. It was then that Chivas made a big mistake when it decided to rest on their laurels.

Velez Sarsfeld attempted to take adavantage of Chivas deciding to rest by attempting an equalizer yet Liborio Sanchez continued to deflect all attempts at equalzing the game. Omar Bravo saved the day by scoring a second goal within 78 minutes by kicking the ball past the German Marcelo Montoya towards the goal post. Chivas was rejuvenated, the people were screaming for more, and Velez Sarsfeld was demoralized.

German Marcelo Montoya was frustrated and angry with Bravo and Chivas because the ball would go past him as a goalkeeper. He decided to take matters into his own hands by using physical violence against Bravo. The result was that German Marcelo Montoya received a red card and was expelled from the game. A penalty shot was done in favor of Chivas and Hector Reynoso was to do the penalty kick.

Reynoso kicked the ball from the left side and scored a goal making the results a 3 to 0 in favor of Chivas of Guadalajara. The most valued player of the game was Liborio Sanchez for his numerous attempts to deflect the attempts of Velez Sarsfeld in scoring. Omar Bravo is also considered the most valued player of the game for his ability to score goals in this game.

The infamous part of the game was the violent conduct of German Marcelo Montoya against Omar Bravo. Chivas also deserves praise for being able to win this game in spite of being prohibited from having reinforcements by one of the associations of South American Football/Soccer CONMEBOL.
