2010 FIFA World Cup: Mexico

Mexico is one of the countries that will be participating in the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa. It is known for its football/soccer history as it is known for its romantic and cultural side. The teams that make Mexico its home are Chivas, Club America, Pumas, Tigres, Jaguares, Santos, Los Indios de Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, Necaxa, Monterrey, and Pachuca.

Pachuca and Club America has just finished the CONCACAF Champions League with Los Tuzoz [the nickname for Pachuca] winning the CONCACAF Champions League for the year 2010. Mexico is also the home of Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Giovanni Dos Santos, Guillermo Ochoa, and Jared Borghetti, It has been the host of the 1986 FIFA World Cup and has appeared 13 appearances.

Mexico has been able to classify along with the United States of America and Honduras after a gruelling CONCACAF Qualifying Games in the year 2009. Mexico is in Group A with South Africa, Uruguay, and France. It is currently ahead of Uruguay and South Africa in the FIFA Coca Cola Classification.

Mexico  is behind France in the same classification. Regardless, this has not deterred Televisa from sending it best and brightest journalists to South Africa to cover the events in the African Country. The Colombian Singer Shakira even wrote a song praising the Mexican National Football/Soccer Team.

The US Latin TV Station Univision has an AT&T Commercial with Thalia praising her country while wearing the uniform of its national team and screaming “Yes We Can Mexico”. The tabloids are always filled with details of the Mexican Soccer Players, The team is already gearing up for the opening game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against South Africa.

While the first game would give Mexico an advantage over South Africa, South Africa [also known as Bafana Bafana] will not allow itself to be defeated in the opening game. The reason is that they are as organized as Mexico. The next reason would be the pressure from South Africa and the Africans in their continent to win the first game.

If this is the case, Mexico may advance to the quarter finals, and semi finals after eliminating France and Uruguay from contention in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Mexico has surprised the world many times with one example being the victory of Mexico over Iran in the 2006 World Cup held in Germany.

It remains to be seen what will transpire especially when Miguel Sbah has been forced out of the game because of injury.
