2010 FIFA World Cup: Cameroon

The African Nation of Cameroon is another contender in the historic 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It is in Group E with the Netherlands, Denmark, and Japan with the Netherlands being the strongest opponent.

The FIFA Coca Cola Ranking has Cameroon in 19th place with 887 points behind the Netherlands with its 4th place and 1221 points. Denmark is behind Cameroon with 35th place and 767 points. Japan is in 45th place with 674 points.

Cameroon has always been football/soccer country in Africa and has participated in seventeen FIFA World Cup events. It defeated Argentina by one point during the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy.

The team has had great players such as Roger Mila who helped Cameroon defeat Russia in the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the United States of America. The team will be blessed with the presence of great personalities such as Samuel Eto’o [who is the top scorer with 23 points within 968 minutes], Alexandre Song, Stephane Mbia, and Jean Makoun.

The Cameroonian National Football/Soccer Team has 9 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss, 23 goals for, and 4 against. The team has received 17 yellow cards and one red card but this has not stopped the team from shining.

The coaches of the team Otto Pfister from Germany and Paul Le Guen from France have helped the team with their expertise. The team also known as the Lions are living legends thanks to the cooperation between the coaches, team, and owners.

The first two games will be against Japan on the 14th of June 2010 and Denmark on the 19th of June 2010. The possibilities of Cameroon defeating Japan and Denmark are great taking into account their tenacity, discipline, and organization in and off the field.

Afterwards, they will face the Netherlands which will be their toughest opponent. It remains to be seen whether the Netherlands can defeat Cameroon. Regardless, the Netherlands and Cameroon will probably be within the top two of their group before advancing to the quarter finals and maybe the semi finals.

Cameroon will also be helped by another player Sebastien Bassong who was born in France but has Cameroonian blood. Mr. Bassong is currently a defender for the venerable English Premier League team the Tottenham Hotspurs.

Benoit Assou-Akoto will also be included in the lineup as well as the teenage wonder Joel Matip to provide an exciting game for the people of Africa and the world. Cameroon deserves nothing but the best.
